Cooking Demonstration- Tarts

This Thursday, October 8th, from 11-1, AWC will be having a tart making demonstration. This month our tart expert, Susan Raynaud, will be making a fabulous quiche lorraine and a fall apple tart.

Members and non-members are invited to come. Price hasn't been determined yet, but will only cover the cost of ingredients, which we're estimating will be under 5 euros per person.

If you'd like to attend please call the clubhouse or e-mail

Membership News

Jackie and Linda spent the weekend getting the word out about AWC. On Saturday it was off to the International College of Spain. Then on Sunday we visited the American School of Madrid. Many interested women stopped at the table, took information and provided us with email information.

Linda gorged herself on the paella at ICS and the barbecue at ASM, and baked goods at both. She is more than willing to attend more of these functions to eat, er, represent AWC.

Check out the pictures in the Membership Gallery.

Walking Tour- Retiro

On Thursday, September 24, we will walk around Parque del Retiro. This is a great way to get some exercise, talk with others and enjoy some camaraderie afterwards with some coffee.

The walk lasts approximately one hour, followed by a visit to the coffee shop.

Newcomers are welcome and this is an especially nice way to see a little bit of Madrid.

Please sign-up at the clubhouse or by e-mailing

Details regarding the starting point will be forwarded via email.

Wine Tasting and Paella

On Friday, September 18, at 7:00PM, at The American Women’s Club; we will have our favourite winemaster, Cesar Varona, return with a special treat. Not only is he preparing to dazzle our senses with some new exotic wines; he’s going to feed us also. Nothing fancy...but he’s cooking up a paella to die for. And to insure that he gathers the freshest fish and ingredients, he’s dragging me to the Fish Market at 5:00 AM to assist with “the catch of the day”.

Bring and Buy Sale

Please come to the clubhouse on Monday, September 14th for the monthly AWC second-hand sale. 10:30-2pm.

This month we have a huge selection of items to choose from. Including: microwave oven, porcelain dinnerware, folding chairs, piano music, and lots more.

As always we will have women's clothing, children's new and used clothes, household items and miscellaneous.

Clubmembers are welcome and so is the public. Hope to see you there.

Change of Date for Cocktails at Hard Rock

The American Club of Madrid will be having Happy Hour at the Hard Rock Cafe on Wednesday, September 9th, instead of Tuesday the 8th as originally planned.

This should be a fun time so plan on attending.

Back-to-School Kids Activity

Come join moms and kids on September 3rd for a back-to-school activity. Children will have the opportunity to make a special notebook, participate in a coloring contest, play Bingo with prizes awarded and have a snack. Moms can come and visit with other moms, enjoy beverages and assorted pastries, and count down the days until school starts.

The fun begins at 11am at the AWC clubhouse. Please sign up with Linda Comella at or by calling Nancy at the clubhouse.

Hope to see you there!

Welcome Back

The AWC clubhouse is once again open after being closed for the summer. Many members had exciting and interesting summer vacations and I'll be updating and posting photos as member return to Madrid. Check out the new photo album "Life Outside the Club" that shows what we were up to this summer.

Congratulations to our clubhouse secretary and her family as her son Antonio got married this summer. And to long-time member Lynne Friedman, whose beautiful daughter, Natalia, got married as well.

Clubhouse Closed for Summer

The AWC clubhouse will be closed July 17th, thru August 16th. The clubhouse will re-open August 17th at 10:30am. If you need to contact a club member, please contact our president Linda Comella, at

Hope everyone has a great summer.

Kid's Book Exchange details

The AWC Kid's Book Exchange will begin Monday, June 15th and run through the week. A table has been set-up with books for all ages, mostly in English. If you'd like to participate, members can bring in books and exchange them at no cost. If you don't have any books to exchange, then books can be purchased for 1 EUR for members or 2 EUR for non-members.

This is a great way to build up some new books for summer reading and get kids excited about reading. Members and non-members are invited to this fun event.
