Attention Members and Non-Members of AWC- our fundraising social evening event in January 2013 is a Benefit Cocktail and Tapas Evening to be hosted at Bangkok Restaurant, C/Bordadores 13, Madrid on Thursday, Jan. 24th from 7-9 p.m. The purpose of the event is to connect with the people and associations that continually recognize and give shelter to homeless and abused animals. Please show your support by attending this benefit which will lend assistance to less fortunate creatures that don´t enjoy a warm home.
Be sure to RSVP by next Monday, Jan. 21st - friends and guests are welcome! Venue is downtown Madrid – it’s a great opportunity to meet!! (exact directions can be found by clicking onto the blue calendar bar above and then clicking onto the Jan. 24th Animal Abuse Event). Donation is 20€.
This month the holiday rush made it impossible for us to publish our regular Bulletin. In the attachment at the foot of this article you will find the AWC President's Letter for this month with the monthly calendar of activities on the last page.
This coming week the following activities will take place at the Club:
Monday, Jan. 14th- 50% off all marked prices at our Bring and Buy. Bring your friends along and take advantage of our winter sale bargains. The Sale is from 10,30-2 and we will pack up from 2 p.m. on. All volunteer help is welcome for the sale itself and for packing up!!
Tuesday- Jan. 15th- Handcrafts/Patchwork and Mahjong Groups meet at 11 a.m.
Wednesday- Jan. 16th- Canasta at 11 a.m.
Thursday Jan. 17th- Bridge at 11 a.m. There will also be a Beginner's Bridge Lesson sometime on this day. Please contact the Club to find out exact time.
Friday Jan. 18th- at noon- Line Dancing Classes resume. More information on this activity can be seen by clicking onto the "Calendar"slot on the blue bar above this article and then clicking onto "Line Dancing" on Jan 18th.

Thursday and Friday, Jan 10 & 11th - Bring and Buy Set Up, 10,30-4,30. This month we will hold a a 50% off all marked prices sale. Bring in your donations, and please let Nancy know if you'll be able to help us with setting up.
AWC Madrid will close for the holidays on Friday, Dec. 21st at 3 p.m. The Club will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 3rd at 10 a.m. Basic information about January activities can be seen by clicking onto "Calendar" on the blue bar above and then going to the January 2013 slot. This is the last week of activities before the Holiday Break. But there are still plenty of things going on.
Christmas Carolling Event at 8,15 p.m. Take note of this new starting time, a bit later than had been originally announced. The event will be hosted by Luís and Gloria Moreno. The sign-up date for this event has gone by. If you did sign up to attend, make sure you bring your ID card with you. You will be asked to show it.
Wednesday, Dec. 19th - Canasta at 11 a.m. New activity, began only a week ago.
Thursday, Dec. 20th - 12 noon, Eggnog at the Clubhouse. Bring a treat to share to this year’s Eggnog Party. Tammy Schafer again promises to make us a batch of her tried and true best recipe. There is no better traditional way to kick off the holiday celebrations than an eggnog Christmas toast with friends. If you would like to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a gift (10 euros or less) and call the Clubhouse to confirm your attendance.
Friday, Dec. 21st - 3 p.m. The Clubhouse closes for the holidays and will reopen on January 3rd at 10 a.m.
Our Bring and Buy Sale was a great success thanks to our donors, helpers and faithful customers. Our next Sale is on Jan. 10th.
The rest of the week will be filled with activities. Tuesday Dec. 11th the Handicraft/Patchwork group and the Mahjong ladies will meet at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 12th the new Canasta group will meet to play at 11. There are already two tables formed, so contact the Club if you are interested in participating in this new activity.
Thursday, Dec. 13th the Bridge group will meet at 11 a.m.
Friday, Dec. 14th at noon the new Line Dancing group will meet. Nina has asked Judy Clericuzio, the undisputed “Queen of Country” in Madrid, to give several line dancing classes at the Club. The idea is to have one initial class before Christmas so as to get an idea of numbers, and then to continue through the month of January on Fridays at noon. Contact the Club or Nina if you are interested in taking part in this fun activity.
This week is cut right down the middle by the Thursday holiday, but with the exception of activities falling on Thursday, all the rest will take place as usual. This month we'll be preparing Bring and Buy on Wed. and Friday. (Sale is Monday, Dec. 10th)

Wednesday, Dec. 5th - Bring and Buy Set Up. Due to the Thursday holiday, we have moved the set up to Wednesday and would like to get as much done as possible. Come in any time from 10,30 to 4 and give us a hand with sorting, marking, folding, etc. Bring in your donations. Our December Sale is usually a very good one!
Thursday, Dec. 6th- the Club is closed for the Spanish Constitution Day holiday.
Friday, Dec. 7th- the Club will be open and we will finish setting up Bring and Buy. Take advantage of the long weekend to bring in your donations and/or to give us a hand with the set up! Come in any time between 10 and 3,30.
Tuesday, Nov. 27th- regular meeting of Handicraft/Patchwork Group and Mahjong Players
Wed. Nov. 28th- World renowned jewelers VASARI have offered AWC members a private presentation of their recent pieces, to be shown at a cocktail and tapas gathering at 7 p.m. at a downtown Madrid location. You must sign up at the Clubhouse before closing time on Monday afternoon, Nov. 26th.
Thursday, Nov. 29th - Enjoy walking along the lovely Rio Manzanares promenade, looking at some interesting sites: Matadero buildings, Segovia Bridge, and the Virgen del Puerto Chapel. We will stop for coffee along the way. Plan on about one and a half hours. Sign up at Clubhouse or email@example.com Meeting point will be Metro Legazpi Line 6 and Line 3-Outside the "Río Exit" at 11 a.m.

- And, on FRIDAY, October 26th from 12 to 3 p.m. we´ll hold our first "Bazaar Friday". We need your ideas, but also your hands to sort and pack books, stuff envelopes, pick/up and distribute flyers, etc. Help make the Nov. 18th 2012 Bazaar our most successful ever!!
